It has been almost two years since I last visited Death Valley National park, but the varied landscape of that place keeps calling me back. They get baked into almost pottery as the surface temperatures can reach 200 degrees F. The resulting patterns and leading lines create lots of foreground interest for photographers. Although I did make a lot of wide-angle images, I also made a bunch of more intimate landscapes using my longer lens. Since Ron and I have a bit of an obsession with mud and sand patterns, we spent some time on this trip exploring to see if we could find some new areas for this kind of photography. That is a lot to include and often the result is a loss of a main subject to start your frame.
The photograph below is one of those scenes where these cloud formations reminded me of that projective test. However, capturing a compelling image in this area is not necessarily guaranteed.
