I worked on a guy's chopper before that had a big box i front of the motor for a stupid boom box and stuff. This makes it possible to have a harley engine on VW transaxle buggies. Harley engine to vw transmission adapter plates. With my experience (limited maybe) can I tear down this engine, or should I just send the whole thing out to be fixed? I'll be away from my computer for a few days, so I hope I've given you all the information you need to point me in the right direction.

But the problem that's going to be there with like the adapter kit shown above is that there is no compensator, it's direct drive between the motor and trans.
The closest one I've found is in Canada... Now it detracts from the awsome HD left side engien profile but it is one solution to get some air over those cooling fins. At least the website is gone. I've found some internet sites for shops that TIG weld these so they won't slip and then re-true the crankshaft. Couple things to note is that HD stopped using hot forged cranks in 2005 and stopped using timken drive-side main bearings in 2003. They said they would check their contacts in Germany. "That thing's gona look nice when he's done". Starfishy, there are a few of the VW kits that have popped up in YouTube and around, but I've never been able to find who makes them or sells them. You probably need a drive-line compensator between the flywheel and the motor.. Maybe if you use a "B" motor you would not need one, but my guess is that you'll still have issues.
