So I removed the steering column trim, and popped out the cylinder, then put it in a vice in the shop and took the snap ring off to remove the cover. So now when i put the key in it pushes in, and when i pull the key out the piece moves back out. Just finished my interloc replacement. Key in ignition chime won't stop and go. It's a brand new battery, and a new alternator, so something must be draining it, slammed4door. I don't know which fuse operates the key in chime.

It took me maybe 35 minutes to figure out. Maybe your door sensors are signalling the door is open, so when you turn the key out of run, the chime is saying 'don't forget your keys'. The chime or bell that goes off when you put the key in the ignition and leave the door open won't stop... even with the key out!!! When the temperatures are above 40 degrees, the battery stays charged - at least at an amount that's sufficient to start the vehicle. Key in ignition chime won't stop and lock. It's likely that you have a problem with the electrics associated with this chime in the ignition assembly, since this is supposed to stop when the key is in position 3 (running). Leave the key in, open the driver door then turn the truck off. If they metal contact on the plug is allowed to ground itself on the lock cylinder then the chime will still function. 03-28-2004, 07:05 PM. It only happens when evening temperatures dip into the 30's. Then your instrument panel fuse out turn car on and off then reinsert instrument panel fuse. It seems that when my car was in for it's service, the garage set the dial for my lights to be on. Car was off, no other doors open, in Park. Will let you know if the drain is gone too. It seems when my wife took it to the car wash, they somehow switched the headlights from automatic to on. I can't think of anything else that would cause this.
I didn't think to look by the ignition, because I don't know much about cars, but I unscrew the bottom cover and low and behold, this little piece of plastic with wires moves back and forth when you press it. Does it go off when you drive it or does it still go off when the car is running and the door is closed? If you want to spend the money, that will fix your problem. I had the same problem in my Ford Kuga. Turns out the module had coca cola syrup mucking up the connections. Just make sure you have a spare key or know how to pick the lock lol. The way i fixed it is that i was in a hurry to leave my car one day and i pulled the key out really fast and it pulled that piece back out. I definitely want to disable the chime too.
