If they metal contact on the plug is allowed to ground itself on the lock cylinder then the chime will still function. What am I supposed to do? I have the same problem. The chime has been annoying me for weeks. When I turn off the car, I just remove the sholder belt from the clip and retract it... 3L 5-speed stick w/OD. The chime still goes off when the vehicle is started, so I am now wondering if something is shorting the whole thing out. Basiclly everything is reversed in that I mean when you car is off and the sholder belt is attached, the chime goes off, when the car is running and the sholder belt is attached and the drivers door is opened the chime does not go off? Now with the key out and door open the chimes won't quit. Key in ignition chime won't stop and stop. This setup allows you to switch the radio between normal operation (ignition on) and manual (on anytime). I make myself look like a moron way too easily. Is only an issue when the temps drop, and the truck sits. I've read the threads about disabling the ignition chime but it seems it takes out the chime for everything. Scratching my head here. You can pull the inside of the cylinder out just a bit (not too much, you don't want the tumblers to come shooting out) and then push the cam in and it will pop right out. Register and never see these ads again. When I turn the key backwards the chime starts and won't shut off unless I turn the key forward, but that powers up all the systems and slowly drains my battery. I am not sure but I think the door ajar only happens if the keys are in the ignition. Unplug it and it should deactivate any key-related chimes.

Thas how i got rid of mine it got annoying so i threw it across the street and havent seen it since. Your battery was probably drained down from it chimming all night it just didnt have enought juice to start the car but enough to keep the chime going.
