I can't think of another deck that does this. This deck is not unknown, despite its name. Kali destroys evil forces and gives birth to creation. For each card definition, there is a black-and-white image of the card on the left page and the definition and keywords on the right page. The Mother of Swords encourages you to be direct and honest with yourself and others. On the left page is a black and white image of the card. As you continue maturing and developing within, you leave aside fear that binds you. Like the Father of Swords, she is actually sitting on the hilt of her sword so it's holding her up and supporting her; she relies on her intellect, wit, logic and communication skills. Queen of Swords is notoriously thought of as cold. Please take exquisite care of yourselves. I also love The Bardo, with the skulls circling the artwork. I have not read the entire book yet, but the passages I did read helped me understand the archetypes better. So far, with each card I've drawn, I've had to spend time reading it, staring at it, and meditating on it, which is so far making a quick general reading nearly impossible, but very, very worth the time spending with the deck. I found them beautiful, stunning, and absorbing. The Mother of Swords has a high level of mastery over the air element. There is much to unpack here.
So we call in our curiosity, we call in our compassion, our critical thinking, and our common sense. This seems befitting for the Mother of Swords because she prefers things to be drama free. Both the Robin Wood and the Rider-Waite decks depict a Queen looking in a westward direction, clouds present, with an upright sword in her right hand and her left extending out to someone unseen. Like there's some kind of really clear sight happening here, and there's an ability to sort of slice through, very cleanly, any confusion, any sort of whirling or swirling or density that might be there, to expose sort of, the beating heart of the matter. Upright is the full moon, the card's full potential. And we certainly can't really hook any Tarot card's meaning onto a certain, external attainment or a feeling or an emotional state. In our journey around daring to get our hopes up, how can we begin to tend to the feelings of worry, anxiety and overwhelm that can often arise?
Like, what's going on here, and what's the belief underneath that? It's just information. A cursory look tells us that Tarot deck authors certainly view this woman from a myriad of perspectives.
Don't let it get too, like, mental or too analytical. If we breed toxicity in our minds, we will only have a toxic family. A Portland artist, this deck immediately grabbed my attention, not only because she's a stone's throw away from me on the other side of the Mt. Which, you know, I think those feelings are completely valid, but they're usually a start point, not a stop point, right? It's an experience where, whether tangible or sort of still in the invisible realm, we're cooking something. I really like the combination of collage work with line drawing and watercolor. Is it a story, a belief, a worry, a fear? As a determined, independent and resilient person, you have established clear boundaries, and you are quick to call out someone who crosses them. And this emerges in the graphic aspect of the cards, always very accurate and consistent.
