Tudors book 'The Chalk Man' since it's release day but unfortunately, I've never found the time to read it, after reading this book though I am making reading it a priority. The Taking of Annie Thorne is a dark and sinister thriller that builds the suspense until the dramatic and surprising conclusion. Wham bars - nice touch. This is a seriously creepy story which is very well written. Joe has bad debts – and bad people – he needs to escape. But more than that, on a subconscious level and due to the past, Joe was, one day, always going to return to Arnhill as you can't escape your past and also, the past shapes the present. Joe grew up in Arnhill, he went to the school, he had his gang of mates, and he had a sister. It has a creepy and unnatural back story alongside a damaged cast of characters.
Quite often I find this secretiveness in a novel extremely frustrating but in this case I found it intriguing and was desperate to find out more. And now the same thing has happened to another child. Her characters, while never exactly likeable, are very real and leave us with the impression that we've met them before, or we know someone exactly like them. Description of the book: Then... The author has managed to craft a character that gave me the chills. As with The Chalk Man, Tudor grabs us by the throat in the opening chapter, and doesn't let up all the way through. I like reading a narrative and having to consider whether whatever has happened is true, or whether the perspective is biased or not. What are your thoughts on The Taking of Annie Thorne? The writing was brilliant; Tudor knows how to capture an audience and how to keep them flipping the page. The Taking of Annie Thorne is chilling and compulsive in equal measure with something that prickles away, niggling at the back of your neck throughout its length. I enjoyed the way it went from then and now to tell the story. The Taking of Annie Thorne is her latest release.
But was it Annie, really? As the book goes on, the reader learns about Joe's little sister Annie, who disappeared, then came back different. After reading the first few pages of this book, I already have a strong feeling that this book is darker and creepier than The Chalk Man. Set in Nottingham (my birthplace), the perfect setting for a horror story, because the scars of industry, particularly collieries, are still visible and relevant in these villages, even when the green hills hide the spoil tips and the pit wheels have flower planters around them. Like the previous novel, this has a chilling and tense plot line that will make your spine tingle. The book is told from Joe Thorne's POV and whilst most of the chapters are set in the present there are a few that are set in 1992 and show you exactly what happened that year. The only ones who knew... Sinister events from all those years ago woven into a horror story that is epic and truly frightening. I can say though, do not read in bed, at night! For the latter imagine Myron Bolitar dropped into the disused coalfields of Nottinghamshire. After almost thirty years, Joseph Thorne returns to the Nottinghamshire town of Arnhill to take up a teaching position at the local academy. The Taking Of Annie Thorne has the chilling haunting Eco of The Chalk Man it takes you grips you holds you tight until you are breathless with fear and shock! Joe Thorne has not had an easy life since that fateful year of 1992. And it really is, also with a supernatural element which is absent in the Chalk Man.
Yet, I managed to devour this book in a handful of days at a time when that wasn't really the norm for me. Addictive, creepy and chilling. On February 5, 2019.
You don't trust them. If you have read The Chalk Man (and if not then you definitely should, immediately! ) One night, my little sister went missing. I happily put C. Tudor on my elusive list of favorite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed The Chalk Man, so had high hopes for this follow-up book.
Thorny (Annie's brother) is a character you are unable to decide if you like him or not and also whether you want him to navigate his path through the story or not. But his return to the village is bringing the past back to haunt them all. The deeper you go, the darker they get. But it's almost more psychological than anything else.
As King says, if you like his books, then you'll like this. The whole village searched. Coming back to Arnhill is going to bring back painful recollections. When her peers were reading Judy Blume, she was devouring Stephen King and James Herbert. For me, the worst bit would have to be that once the story changed course it began to feel like a really bad retelling and I think the original had a lot more involved with it. Scrawled on the wall of the boy's bedroom are the words NOT MY SON. I, for one, can't wait for her third! The story goes back and forth between past and present but not in an obtrusive way.

But Joe has enough evidence to ruin reputations that have taken a lifetime to build, and he's in debt to some very serious people who are slowly but surely running out of patience. I strongly recommend to read this book, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. It's almost classic Stephen King nightmare territory and you can see why he's such a fan of C. J. Tudor's books. But coming back to the place he grew up, means facing the people he grew up with, and the things they did.
Everyone thought the worst. I had read The Chalk Man by this author and I loved it so I was hoping this book would be as good, I need not have worried and although I was convinced I had worked it all out I hadn't and the ending was brilliant. It made me laugh, it made me cry. Now Joe has been sent a mysterious email that tells him 'I know what happened to your sister. 25 years later her brother, Joe, returns to Arnhill looking for... I particularly liked the characters of Annie and Joe.
I couldn't put this book down, it was full of suspense and mystery. And sometimes, you should never come back. The Chalk Man changed that' FIONA BARTON. Before this, however, Joe received an anonymous and mysterious email telling him that "I know what happened to your sister.
