Almost half of the novel describes how Ard and his crew try to steal the king's insignia. Two bullets put a dent in that Southern charm but—thankfully—spared his spectacular rear end. I couldn't put the book down and even though it was a 780 page mammoth, I ended up finishing this in less than 2 days. I enjoyed it a lot more than I initially expected.
