This is different than how bookstores handle graphic novels, in that bookstores have the option to return what doesn't sell back to the distributor and get a credit for what they return. It's a naturalistic and "literary" story compared to Junji Ito's usual supernatural horror fare - painful and sad where those stories are often shocking and funny and, yes, sometimes painful and sad. Where Dazai was more elusive, Ito chose to be more explicit. One of my "complaints" about Japanese literature (and I put complaints in quotes because I don't believe it's a flaw with the actual books) has always been that the emotion is too subtle.

Wow what a wild ride... this was a truly haunting tale. I LOVED what he did with the ending, I found it super interesting and unique. Jane is a gorgeous lady who gets to live a comfortable life as a trophy wife, but her life isn't all sparkles and joy. There is also the liberty that Ito takes with the story, adding to it in just the right places. No less no more. Most, if not all comic shops get most of their comics (thin 30+ page monthly comics) and graphic novels from Diamond Distribution, a company that pretty much has the market cornered, as far as getting comics and toys into comics shops.
