She's imaginative, she's creative, and she's an artist, and I wanted the film to be told from her perspective, so that led to a lot of aesthetic decisions, such as shooting this film entirely on 60 millimeter, Super 8, incorporating some stock motion animation components and a lot of fantastical scenes. It's a fierce reminder that nobody has it all figured out, and that it's okay for things to go wrong. There are some beautiful projections to fire up the imagination. Of course, not all movies which include unicorns have them as their focal point – but if you're looking to pick up something where unicorns play a part on the sidelines, there are still plenty of options.
