Jim, Drake, and Johnny show up in time to help fight the monsters, and Hank s mob of Brutal Rednecks makes itself useful at last by forming an anti-gill-man posse, but the ending of Humanoids from the Deep is far from conclusive. Other issues include strong sex references and sexualised breast nudity. When the mauled bodies of males turn up including the disappearances of a number of young women, it is soon discovered that a humanoid race of fishmen are responsible. I've seen her in a few things. All of which makes the outlook for the rest of the salmon festival distinctly grim. I guess I am: I keep watching. This man is Jim Hill (Doug McClure, from Warlords of Atlantis and The Land that Time Forgot), and despite the fact that his dog was among those killed (he and his wife Carol [Cindy Weintraub, from The Prowler] found its skinned and mangled carcass out on the beach the same morning that Hank and his men discovered their dead dogs on the docks), he has the sense to see that one Indian vs. several dozen dogs is not exactly good odds for the Indian. This isn't a film built for most mainstream audiences – it's simply too audacious, too nasty, and too off-the-wall to be accepted as A-level entertainment.
One look at a shack/home and I knew it was going to burn simply because you don't build well if its not going to last past reel three. It reminds me of his vivid, lush music for Star Trek 2 & 3. He's probably most famous for his role on the long running western program, THE VIRGINIAN (1962-70). There are some problems with it, including the fact that they had a male director go in and do some pick-ups and reshoots to up the nudity factor in the film. The deleted scenes are fairly interesting. But when several thousand DNA-5-treated salmon somehow escaped from the lab, Drake really began to worry. For this months Beer Goggles I've finally sat down to watch a film that has been on my to watch list for a long time, Roger Corman's Humanoids From the Deep. They do change, but not that much in the grand scheme of things. Humanoids From the Deep is a perfect example of a Roger Corman produced film embracing violence and debauchery aplenty. Giving in to Gratuity. It was a great year for horror but there is one film that people don't talk about very: Humanoids from the Deep. Damn, but I wanted to see this sucker! It was directed by Barbara Peeters, which may surprise some people when you consider the films subject matter of murder and rape.
Actually, I could probably find several reasons. There's some goofy character actors doing their best to be sleazy and exploitative while being anchored by some real talent; that's a heady mix! While the other Corman films that Scream Factory has released on blu-ray (Piranha, Galaxy of Terror, etc) have come with a ton of special features, the features here feel a bit empty. Yes, ladies and gents, the film throws in a bunch of obvious racism to go with the rape and murder. You can definitely tell this film was actually shot on film whereas the 2010 blu-ray looked a bit too processed. This is grindhouse cinema at its best. Already, I'm enjoying this chapter more than the previous one, there are bound to be creature features aplenty now. One of the best bad racist insults in the history of cinema.
In short, I like the feel of 80's movies- that grainy, unpolished, vaguely exploitative feel that tells you that you're about to be a privy to something that is guaranteed to produce a reaction one way or another. Vote down content which breaks the rules. You laugh, but I know what I m talking about. Interesting piece of trivia. Which, to be fair, is exactly what they are, but they don't necessarily need to feel that way. Star Ann Turkel was initially excited to work on a "smart sci-fi" movie that would never come to fruition. This version features additional gore (an infamous scene involving some terrific makeup). Now, this isn't the biggest leap in terms of picture quality over the 2010 Shout! It's a mean-spirited bit of Corman produced monster mash and it can still entertain the sleaze hungry teenager in each of us. Studio: Scream Factory.
