It's devastating and beautiful and completely captivating. I really enjoyed many things about this book. The bluntness of the creature and how people around the main character actually saw the things that were being done to Thiago were refreshing. Thiago's world is spiralling and the speed only continues to increase when the Itza begins to act up again, as if whatever evil following him is ready to take the world by storm, starting with Thiago. Much of this was unsettling and the reader will either have fun attempting to join the dots, or give up in frustration, ultimately I do not think it was supposed to make 100% sense and interpretations will undoubtedly differ. It gets incredibly trippy toward the end and I'm not sure my brain was absorbing everything that was being thrown at it yet I am still so glad to have read this. It made it feel so intimate and frankly, real. But before they can investigate more, a young man fleeing the scene of a crime he committed accidentally pushes Vera down some stairs, and she falls into a coma and dies.
