On that note, we must mention Lark's two besties, we absolutely couldn't for the life of us understand their friendship. How has my own past stopped me from experiencing something. I absolutely loved every word and highly recommend it to everyone! These characters are supposed to be in their late 20s, but they easily read as older teenagers. There was such a feeling of intense longing and desperation for their situation -- these two kids from impoverished lives and abusive homes had found something beautiful, binding, and healing in their love for each other. I felt like I was right alongside Emiline as she was seeing what Jace was trying to show her. I swear it was all I was talking about, it was all I was tweeting about, it was all I was snap chatting about, it was bordering annoying but I just couldn't help it, I was so smitten over a book I literally cannot deal with other people or with life. Anyways, imagine her surprise when her roommate comes home with a book she insisted Em had to read, only for Em to discover the book-"All the roads between"- was a semi-memoir, chronicling hers and Jax's childhood, which Jax had written. Something you would actually stop and ponder on after you read it. I loved the title, the premise of this book and even the simple, yet meaningful cover. The way that aspect of the story was so much more than just a way to showcase the past, pure genius. It explores several heavy topics but manages to hold that weight without pulling you down along with it. People keep telling her to write what she knows, maybe her own memoirs, but it seems someone beat her to it. From the moment I read the very first chapter, I knew right then and there it will become a favorite.
My biggest issue with the story, however, is how anticlimactic the whole thing was. They were separated for twelve years with no contact whatsoever in between and we were just expected to accept them as a couple when they don't even know anything about each other as adults. Cara (Emi's roommate) ends up bringing home a book called All The Roads Between. I loved the relationship between these two main characters. Through reading the book, Emi is forced to relieve parts of her past she had just buried and resolve all her issues. I continued to read Ms. Carino and each time she has touched me.
