Part of learning who we are as people is learning how to accommodate those parts. "What do you mean? " How will his eyes meet yours? Even though not all her decisions are the best, there's no doubt Kyra is the one calling a lot of the shots in this book. All mixed up with this spot. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. There's definitely some twists in the plot, even ones that I wasn't expecting. Since the events of the last novel, Kyra has learned the truth of her heritage. I wish there was more to it. Overall this was an action packed and engaging read. Her character has been through a lot in this series, from being one person's puppet to another's prisoner, forever feeling one step lower than the others. It probably wasn't as bad as I'm making it sound like, but it was a step down from Midnight Thief and the conclusion left me disappointed and with an unpleasant bittersweet taste in my mouth. Receiving this diagnosis as a 20-week pregnant 27-year-old with her first child was life changing. I like to bottle up the positive memories and open them up when I am experiencing especially challenging times.

I know some people shy away from fantasy books because the world building tends to be complicated, but this isn't one of those books where you can't figure out the world. Their is so much happening on every page that sometimes I just had to stop reading to absorb everything. She shrank back even further.
There were also lots of themes of poverty and corrupt politics that I really enjoyed reading about, especially because they could be reiterated into the real world. As someone who asked for "MORE romance, MORE chemistry! " She has been scouted and they want her.. for a while that was wonderful but she discovers that she wants more. We basically moved to Ann Arbor to be close to Mott Children's Hospital, lived with a family member and at a Ronald McDonald House, worried a lot, I underwent an in-utero surgery at 24 weeks pregnant to close the hole in Pearl's back and then was put on bedrest until her birth.
No rhyme or reason for them to want to be together! But no one spoke, anxious looks passed back and forth, and the atmosphere was tense until Ilish continued: "What's over is done with, these things happen every day; unhappiness can occur, and old friendships often break up. And the hour was coming when he would confront them, when his rage would explode and burn, when those who had betrayed him would despair unto death, when treachery would pay for what it had done. Sadly, I didn't make any sort of emotional connection to any of the side characters. But I still really liked the characters and the relationships.
I can see some changes made from the draft I read to now, but I'm still not convinced that I enjoyed the book. This was the final book and I guess I just wasn't prepared for the story to end. This is unhelpful and dumb and we should stop doing it. I loved Kyra's development and struggles in this storyline. How was I going to carry two babies? Now that I know though, I have a ton of flashbacks from both books, and I have to have a "DERP!! " Percy wants to know how he could possibly be related to a god, and Annabeth tells him that his dad most likely is a god.
Once more he breathed the air of freedom. Daughter of Dusk is a really great and entertaining read. Where police who'd staked out the area had slithered in to surround you. It wasn't a bad ending per say, but I felt like it could have been better. Glorious days--how real they were, no one knows--the Feast, love, parenthood, crime. "This is your father, child, " said the detective impatiently. She is still looked at as a thief and a gutter rat by the group and it makes things tough for her. I was going to give this book 3 stars... but the ending was better then what I expected... The plot really thickened and kept me very intrigued the whole time. Totally loved this book. There are still quite a few things that are left unanswered. There was also the book's plot and subplots, dealing with Idalee (a young girl Kyra considers her adopted sister), Kyra's struggle with her Makvani side, and her feelings for Tristam.
To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. No longer is she ignorant of her own identity and power, and she's discovered herself and what matters to her. She looked surprised. Kyra and Tristam are very aware of this obstacle in life. Full disclosure: I was a beta reader for an earlier draft of Daughter of Dusk last fall. Overall I liked the story and I enjoyed it, but I think I was hoping for a bit more. While I didn't quite love this one as much as the first book, I did still really enjoy it. I'm disappointed, because Midnight Thief was one of my favorite novels of 2014.
Right from the beginning, the book dives right into the exquisite story of Kyra, and her friends. That first year of Pearl's life was very challenging. No need to warn him, you black beetle! We have some new revelations, which I wouldn't have guessed at all. I felt that the pacing was a bit slower in this novel though I did enjoy what I was reading. "I have committed no crime.
