The thing I love about Camille Pagan's writing (and it was the same in FITWLT) is that her characters make some decisions that you might not think are the smartest, but they're realistic. Definitely better late than never in Annie's case. Annie is back at her mother's house after losing her much loved job and her fiancée disappearing to France to "find himself". I was nervous about this one as I don't usually love epistolary style writing, but being the author of one of my favourites, Forever is the Worst Long Time, I still wanted to give it a shot. The plot and characters were a little light as is typical of this genre, but if you're not expecting a deep literary dive, then why not give yourself a little break? The format is fresh and unique, the characters are realistic and lovable yet charmingly flawed and the story is one that won't let you go. Unless explicitly stated that they are free, all books that I review have been purchased by me or borrowed from the library. I loved Annie's personality, she was so witty and I found myself laughing many times while reading this book. The book has moments of sheer brilliance, such as her snarky email exchanges with Leesa and Jon, but I found the story less than captivating in the second half. I mean, what's not to love about spying on your new neighbor, and an over enthusiastic friend that tries to sell you stuff while you're dealing with a fiancé that left you behind while he went to Paris to "find himself" before your wedding?
She writes with truth and honesty about their trials and tribulations. This ARC has been gently provided in exchange for an honest review~. And she has a fiancee, Jon -- but he fled to Paris without telling her and has asked her not to contact him for a month, while he tries to figure out what he wants. The epistolary writing style is one of my favorites and the authors use of this writing style tells the story in journaling entries, neighborhood letters (cue the I laughed until I cried), and emails. I love that the couple in this novel actually learn to communicate with one another. And she has a job -- but she quits after her boss makes a move on her.
This is one of those books that make me want to read more of Camille Pagán's books because her writing is something that is unique and refreshing. The interactions between scientific-minded Annie and her essential oils/crystals selling best friend are laugh-out-loud hilarious: "…you never actually apologized for mistaking your oldest friend for a sales prospect…". Also: this is one of my favorite covers this year! Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Samantha was in her class at school, collected Littlest Pet Shops, and could rattle off the names and evolutions of three hundred Pokémon, ergo they were... My third book by Pagan! I love her growth, and I love her openness, however unwilling, to broach her own boundaries.
For the record, I don't feel that way, but Annie does. While she is there she vows to not get involved with any new people because they are too much work. This is witty, entertaining, sarcastic reading, captured my interest at the first email part written to the sooner runaway fiancée. The story is fast paced and laugh out loud! I found myself laughing out loud at this part. I am on tour with the Tall Poppy Bloggers and thrilled to share my thoughts with you! It's amazing to me how 'noticeable' it is.... ( a new contemporary fiction book that already feels outdated), is scary!....
Didn't enjoy this quite as much as my first read from this author, but it was still an enjoyable story and I'm excited to keep diving into her backlist! I loved how every woman in this book was juggling things, figuring out life at all stages, and there were several components of mental health. "I love the world of words, where life and literature connect. I loved how Annie's life is going up in flames and her fiancé has jumped ship to Paris to 'find himself' leaving Annie alone and lost. Why your new neighbor Harper is black eyed and why a private investigator lurking around your apartment? Genre: General Fiction. She's a brilliant, pithy writer whose books are always quirky and deeply relatable. Ever the scientist, she needs this data collection. Camille Pagán writes about love, relationships, and life's what-ifs. This is in the midst of them planning a wedding. I need to be delighted by Camille Pagán more often.

I definitely want to go and read some of Pagan's other books now because I enjoyed this one so much. My novels have been translated into twenty languages. Annie represents what so many millennial women are going through in their lives and I think many women will find something to like in this one and will strongly connect to Annie. My favorite bits is the Neighborhood Association emails where this dude is increasingly asking to be unsubscribed and is ignored repeatedly. 318 g. Du kanske gillar.
