In fact, the second couple was so much better. It does have good and bad points, so you have to rely on your patience to finish it. The main couple in "The Bride of the Water God", had little to no chemistry, something that made me very annoyed at times, because sometimes they seemed like two robots acting, something that improves a little in the final episodes. But I don't know that he carried the weight of the role as well as a more experienced actor may have. My thoughts: An interesting plot, with special characters and references to mental health issues, the series manages to keep the viewer from the very first minutes. Verdict: Overall: 3/10. It does make much sense and truth in everyday life. My favorite moments of the couple included every time Habaek would wait outside the house for So-Ah to come home. Even with her pride, powers and beauty Moo Ra is unable to confess to Habaek probably because she fears rejection since he already chose a human woman over her and history is repeating itself. Bride of the Water God is definitely a bit of mess, and it certainly has a lot of issues.
So-Ah diverted from the typical candy heroine. The famous kiss scene had very beautiful scenography. Overall, Bride of the Water God is a fun, enjoyable fantasy/paranormal romance story with hilarious and sweet moments. Setting aside the drama giving him the cheesiest lines, he did a great job of convincing me he couldn't act. Even though it never got better… it just… middled around towards the bottom. Also, I loved his "otherworldly" looks in the Realm of the Gods. The biggest surprise for me in this drama was undoubtedly Krystal, because I always thought she wasn't a good actress, but I was completely mistaken, which made me quite happy. NJH is so cute and hot, SSK is so amazing here too. The biggest lesson from the drama is probably that it goes to show love transcends all boundaries, which I guess this is one area whereby most viewers couldn't feel.
Moo Ra (Krystal) is another Water God who is an actress that has long time feelings for Habaek. What ever happened to that mark that transferred to his body when Joo-dong was struck by lightning? He has no choice but to find the gods' servant. That said, this drama also tells us that even though we may always feel the grass is greener elsewhere, we should appreciate what we have. Thumbs up for Lim Ju Hwan's acting. There were so few times when I felt them link. But finally I did after 8 months. They dropped things here and there that initially made a splash, and then they let them sink to the bottom, forgotten. Also, during her childhood, her family had financial problem for helping other poor children. In short, it was nonsense and the last episode especially was such gobbledygook it almost made my brain into chutney. But the imagery I loved most was from the small amount of time we get to spend in the realm of the gods. I was going through Netflix and I saw that Shin Se-kyung was in both Rookie historian and bride of habaek - I'm currently halfway through rookie historian and I think its sooo cute and pretty good so far (consequently I'm now also in love w Cha Eun-woo.... ). Glass Bridge, by Savina & Drones, made the romantic scenes flow deeper and stronger, like a wave washing over. Music was one of the best parts of the show. The supposed human servant turns out to be a psychiatrist, Yoon So Ah ( Shin Se Kyung), who is currently burdened with money constraints. This whole drama was just pretty people declaring themselves as deities and acting like snobby little bastards and squabbling like high school kids. The more the natural, the better it is. He's really there for her, genuinely cares about her troubles and does what he can to help. I was mad at the writers so giving them a vague ending after all that ring talk. Frequently, she attacks verbally the other without reason. Life may be tough but it is with the support of your loved ones that would make you pull through ultimately.
I can't say I would re-watch this. The half-god sub-plot was so useless it drove me nuts. He asks for a quick leave before the coronation to visit So Ah, who is trying hard to live the days without him – with all her might.
To be honest, the only reason I could watch this through all of its episodes was because I watched only one episode in awhile, and took it as a slow-paced but consistent messy drama that it is. Childish, annoying, insipid, awkward. While there are not many action scenes, the stunts during the parking garage scene, in EP10, are excellent. At the same time, the author expects we take the drama seriously. However, the final episode was a little unsatisfying as they tried to cramp in some "answers" to the mysteries that surfaced earlier through the drama. There were some moments that practically steamed up the camera lens with their sensuality. Shin Se Kyung is often attributed as the cause of having weak establishment of chemistry with her co-stars but as she is the "noona" of this drama with much more acting experience than her much younger co-stars, we would have expected her to be able to help them in delivering their roles better. The drama gods did not bestow their grace on this fantasy drama. And Shin Se Kyung got a lot of criticism for her acting, but I don't think she is a bad actress at all.
He is also narcissistic and wants his heavenly throne at all costs. She doesn't have the time or energy for that. The main plot revolves around Yoon So Ah, a poor psychiatrist, (played by Shin Se Kyung) and the Water God, Haebak, (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) who has been sent to the world of man to retrieve the God Stones before he can officially be crowned King of the God Country. Apparently, So Ah is depressed. Genre: rom-com, supernatural, manwha. If you're looking for a similar story as the manwha about sacrifice, love and grace and politics, then go watch something else because this has absolutely none of that shit.
The good — The romance. In the first episode, the interaction between her an Ha-baek (Nam Joo Hyuk) seemed similar to the first time the protagonists of Kill Me Heal met each other. Behold, how to disappoint audiences: Step 1: Do something like this: Step 2: Don't do it again. This duo definitely create some problems for both Habaek and So Ah.
There are just people who are born lucky. The ending felt somewhat tacked on instead of carefully assembled through the second half to the show. He wasn't the second lead, he wasn't the villain (*tharki whisper* though he was real cute) his presence accomplished nothing. I think every actor had their good moments and gave their best even when the direction wasn't clear.
