The snap ring is a simple bent spring steel you are correct in assuming you can bend it just right to make it work the problem is doing without reference. In the mean time I traded the axle for another and incquired about the original core to see if I could compare the clips but it had already been shipped out. Not unless the suspension was undone, in which case I'm thinking the CV would be the least of my problems. Left side as mentioned above but you usually have to get it spline aligned and then pop it inward. I've hit it pretty darn good with a 3lb. You just have to pop it back in after the splines line up.
