Marking a moment in time as only they know how and hopefully giving them the strength to move forwards together. Darkbloom is unlikely to win many plaudits, but it does have a charm and character to it that is no doubt enhanced by nostalgia. Knowing that Pavone died of an accidental overdose, the lyrics hit exceptionally hard, with lines such as, "I would've walked through your hell with you. " There is expressed anger and feelings of being overwhelmed that are nicely mirrored by the chugging guitar work and Stephens' harsh growls. There's a self-evident thread of catharsis throughout, adding a raw energy to every Linkin Park and Bring Me The Horizon-ish riff and electronic stab. Later on we are presented with Doublespeak which follows suit with diversifying their sonic palette. Here, this deathcore-flavored hate anthem stands out simply by being such an outburst of raw power. It's not you, it's is it you? "One More Day" and "Promise You" are the obligatory faux-anthemic ballads, while "Daggers" is the heavy track (though with a rap verse added in) that feels stale in 2022; what worked over a decade ago doesn't produce the same results here. The light may fade but I won't wither away. Cons: Some of the electronic influences sound dated alongside the rest of the album's more standout moments.
