There are some rides that go down for refurbishment every year — both Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom and Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom are closed starting in early or mid-January for annual maintenance. While most Floridians will not go anywhere near an outdoor swimming pool unless the temperature is well above 80 degrees, many from colder climates will likely find a few days where a dip in the pool is a pleasant change. But unfortunately, our crowd calendars cannot predict other things such as weather, travel advisories, pandemics, or last-minute openings or closings of shows and attractions. It's hard to tell where crowd levels in January 2022 will rank against a normal year. I enjoy going frequently, and I've honed in on the best clothes to pack. It should come without saying that much of spring and all of summer warrants shorts and t-shirts/tank tops, but there are also MANY fall days and some winter that can justify such clothing in Florida. The only real downsides are a lack of good entertainment and special events and the probability that one of the big E-Ticket attractions will be getting refurbished. These are all things to be prepared for when visiting this time of year that certain rides (including possibly your favorite! ) I can't tell you how many times I've seen people walking around Disney who I swear are competing to be cast as the next Sebastian. If you can completely avoid the crowds of New Year's and MLK Jr. Day, and if you can avoid or don't mind the obstacles of marathon weekend, January is an okay month to visit. You also won't be wearing swimsuits very often, but you should pack at least one in case the weather warms up or you want to go in the hot tub. If you forgot to bring them or simply don't have them, no worries, Disney does sell ponchos!
While some northern states have people slipping into their heavy coats this time of year, Florida finds families jumping into pools for a cool-off.
