The difference is in viscosity, WD40 is excellent but it's also very light and prone to evaporation. The ATF that Jones uses is likely very similar in cleaning to Marvel Mystery Oil in terms of using high detergent levels to achieve the same result. You don't want to oil a bearing with the stuff. Hey Guys, I have read that most penetrating oils are oil with some sort of solvent mixed together as a carrier. Jones says he lightly sprays WD-40 on the cylinder wall and wipes out the excess.
