For many years, the most compelling and mysterious page for me in Blackbeard and Sheridan's Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comics was a single rough-cut gem by Charles Forbell titled Naughty Pete. But before that he was a master in illustration, caricature and, as seen in this book, he took a memorable excursion into the field of comic strips. It's very different from writing a screenplay, and I had to really learn how to do it properly because the truth is I was a complete neophyte.
